The management of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, via their communication platform on “X”, formerly known as Twitter, issued a signed statement on December 18, 2023, informing the public as follows:
“This is to notify the public that as of 11:13 hours on December 18, 2023, the Egbin Power generating station was shut down to allow the Nigeria Gas Company (NGC) to maintain the linking gas pipeline supplying gas to Egbin Power Station. The station will be shut down for 3 days from today. This means a reduction of 676MW of bulk power generated into the nation’s grid for 3 days and consequently a decrease in the quantum of bulk power available to be delivered to distribution companies load centres nationwide for the period.”
Although the anticipated end of the 72-hour maintenance is at 11:13 pm today, a significant blackout continues nationwide. This blackout adds to the string of outages citizens have experienced in recent weeks due to the frequent collapse of the national grid. The continuous power disruptions have had a substantial impact on the operations of numerous tech companies, forcing them to depend solely on generators. Consequently, this has increased their operational expenses, considering the prevailing fuel prices (PMS and Diesel) in the country.
People across the nation are anxiously awaiting the end of the blackout, hopeful for its resolution later today.
