Globacom users might face challenges making calls to MTN lines soon, as a result of unresolved interconnect charges. The Nigerian Communications Commission made this announcement on Monday through a public notice signed by Reuben Muoka, the Director of the Public Affairs Department. The notice indicated that the commission has given partial approval for disconnecting Globacom from MTN Nigeria Communications Plc.
The notification includes the following excerpts: “Globacom was informed about the application submitted by MTN and had the chance to provide comments and present its case. The Commission, after evaluating the application and the circumstances related to the outstanding debts, concluded that Globacom lacks adequate or justifiable reasons for not fulfilling the interconnect charges.”
The NCC stated that after 10 days from the issuance of this notice, Globacom subscribers will lose the ability to initiate calls to MTN numbers but will still be able to receive incoming calls.
The notice was finalized with the following statement: “The partial disconnection, however, will allow in-bound calls to the Globacom network.”
