In an exclusive interview with ThisDay, Dr. Adesola Adeduntan, the CEO of First Bank Nigeria, addressed concerns about the deployment of humanoid robots in three branches. He discussed the bank’s Digital Xperience Centre (DXC), Nigeria’s pioneering digital bank branch, incorporating advanced technologies like artificial intelligence and humanoid robots to revolutionize self-service banking.
Originally introduced in Lagos in 2021, the DXC has garnered favorable responses from customers, leading to plans for further expansion across all operating jurisdictions. Subsequent rollouts at the University of Ibadan in Oyo State and the Wuse branch in Abuja have also resulted in positive feedback, especially from customers in retail segments.
Addressing worries about potential job displacement for bank employees, Adeduntan emphasized, “The DXC is not a trade-off for our employees but an enabler to free up our staff’s productive time to take on more complex and rewarding tasks within the Bank.”
He further assured, “Given our several laudable employee initiatives, we are well-equipped to empower our employees to take on any other role they may desire within the larger FirstBank Group.”
Adeduntan emphasized First Bank of Nigeria’s commitment to advancing technological innovation in banking. He concluded the interview by announcing plans for more DXC rollouts across operational regions, underscoring the bank’s dedication to delivering cutting-edge banking solutions and fostering employee growth and development.
